My Other Blogs September 6, 2006

Posted by Binford in Other Stuff.

With all the free time I have (yeah right, I can’t even keep this blog updated), I have started two new blogs.  One of them is about the Toronto Maple Leafs and the other is about the Toronto Blue Jays.  Please check them out.

CNN Live From The Ladies Room August 31, 2006

Old but funny news:

During CNN’s live coverage of President Bush’s remarks from New Orleans, Phillips was unaware that her microphone was on and picked up portions of a conversation she was having with another woman, apparently in a CNN restroom. At 12:49pm EDT, those listening carefully could hear Phillips praise her husband.

Check out the video of it here.

Well at least her husband will be happy.  Not so much for her sister-in-law.  Ouch.

Photoshopped August 31, 2006

Looks like Katie Couric is a lot slimmer, thanks to the magic of Photoshop.

Talk about a miracle diet – Katie Couric has become the Incredible Shrinking Anchorwoman.

Thanks to a computer “slight” of hand, the Tiffany network has made the new face of “CBS Evening News” instantly drop about 20 pounds.

In a picture widely distributed to the media last month, a normal-looking Couric wore a frumpy light gray suit and her trademark smile.

But thanks to Photoshop, the popular editing software, the same photo, printed in a CBS magazine, shows her looking much, much thinner – and her suit has become a few shades darker. Full Story

I guess Matt Drudge over at Drudge Report is questioning this photo of Rosie O’Donnell.

Most Annoying Thing About Some Websites… August 25, 2006

Posted by Binford in Other Stuff.

Is the stupid little audio clip that plays as soon as you go to that website.  A great example is my car dealership’s site (WARNING!  Make sure your volume is down low as to not disturb other people in you office with such a nasty little jingle).  This should be one of the deadliest sins of web design and a reason to boycott any websites that have it on there.

I forgot I had a blog.

Well most of you know why I haven’t been posting lately and I want to thank you all for your support and well wishes during such a difficult and emotional time.  I guess the best way to deal with tragedies is to continue to go on with your life.  That’s how people dealt with the events of 9/11 and that’s how I’m going to deal with it.  So here I am, back to blogging.  Back to my usual Liberal bashing and Conservative cheerleading ways.  Here’s hoping to blogging on a more consistent basis.

Now this story is embarrassing because I couldn't even run half of a KM without stopping to catch my breath:

A four-year-old boy nicknamed "India's Forrest Gump" ran 65 kilometres in seven hours and two minutes on Tuesday, an effort his coach said was likely a world record.

Budhia Singh was escorted by a team of doctors and 300 army cadets as he ran from Puri town to Bhubaneswar in the eastern state of Orissa.

Couple, 33 and 104, Reportedly Marry May 2, 2006

I guess it takes a story like this to get me to post something on my blog.  Too bad it's a tad disgusting:

A 33-year-old man in northern Malaysia has married a 104-year-old woman, saying mutual respect and friendship had turned to love, a news report said Tuesday.

It was Muhamad Noor Che Musa's first marriage and his wife's 21st, according to The Star newspaper which cited a report in the Malay-language Harian Metro tabloid.

If he didn't marry her for her money, do you think he did it for the sex?

Long Commute April 20, 2006

You think your commute was long?  Check out this guy:

Are you sitting down? An auto-repair company claims it has found the person with the nation's longest commute. That would be one Dave Givens, who drives 186 miles (300 KM) door to door from his ranch-style home in rural Mariposa near Yosemite National Park to his electrical engineering job at Cisco Systems in San Jose.

And you thought your commute was bad.

On any given Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, Givens reportedly spends seven hours on the road getting back and forth. He puts in a nine- to 10-hour workday, so that leaves seven or eight hours to kiss his wife, eat dinner, relax, go to bed, get up and get ready to do it all over again.

That's on a good day.

On a bad one, like last Wednesday when rain drenched the San Francisco Bay Area, Givens, who is 46, said he had to detour around accidents and drive a total of 225 miles (362 KM) —– one way —- to get home.

Most days Givens burns 12 gallons (45 liters) of gasoline, which comes to 60 gallons (227 liters) a week. With prices at the pump hovering around $3 a gallon, he's spending $180 a week —- $10,000 a year —- on gas. Perhaps it is a good thing the prize for being named winner of the "America's Longest Commute" contest is $10,000.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone else out there puts up with an even longer commute.
