You Scratch My Back… January 3, 2006

Sam Bulte, the Canadian Liberal Party MP for Parkdale/High Park is having her election campaign bankrolled by the Canadian entertainment cartel. Bulte previously authored a one-sided report proposing crazy, US-style copyright laws for Canada, and now her pals from the Canadian Recording Industry Association are throwing her a $250/plate fundraiser — just the kind of high-ticket event that the poor artists Bulte claims to represent can’t afford to attend. Instead, expect this dinner to be stacked with industry fat-cats.

This story got me thinking about the last federal election where a bunch of poor, downtrodden celebrities of film, TV and the arts were crying foul, particularly at the Conservatives, because their financial concerns were being neglected.  Just like other groups they were looking for a handout, presumably to fuel their industry so that they can get jobs and impress enough people to make it big in the U.S.  I can’t wait to hear from them again so that I can ignore their Canadian shows, movies and music.  Well I guess that won’t be difficult seeing that the only thing worth watching on Canadian television are sports.  And for some reason Corner Gas.
